There once was a leader on a major power trip. He took away people’s freedoms and tried to oppress them. And as with most leaders who define themselves by their title and power, he constantly needed an increase in power to feel significant. The status quo was never enough.

When enslaving and oppressing no longer filled his power bucket, this leader ordered midwives to kill the infant sons of the people he feared would take away his power. When the midwives basically responded with “nope, we will not comply,” he ordered all his people to kill the baby boys.

Just so there isn’t any confusion, this story is about Pharaoh, the King of Egypt.

Can you imagine for a moment the feelings the Israelite parents felt? Imagine how scared they were. Face-to-face with evil. Hopeless. Devastated. Uncertainty. Stripped of freedom and their innocent children facing death.

But there was one mother who responded with hope and courage in the storm of uncertainty. Jochebed, Moses’ mother, rolled up her sleeves and said, “not today Satan.” Her hope in something better placed Moses in a basket and in a mamma bear level of bravery she changed the world.

Evil used Pharaoh to kill, steal, and destroy…but birthed from hope emerged goodness, life, and a leader God chose to set His people free.

Who/what is leading your life right now? Uncertainty? Fear? Spirit of death and doom? Sin? Or is it hope? Love? Life? God’s truth? You will know what is leading you by its fruit.

The same hope and courage used by Moses’ mother is available to us too. I encourage you to share hope, embrace courage, and live your days knowing good always triumphs over evil. Always.
